Abstract (EN):
Tactile ground surface indicators (TGSI), as any other pavement, should fulfil the function they were designed for, and grant their users´ safety. Slipping is recognized as one of the main causes of falls and injuries and, therefore, the use of slip resistant ground surfaces is essential for their prevention. This paper presents the results of preliminary slip resistance tests conducted in a “Corten” steel plate with truncated domes for warning surfaces, by using a British Pendulum Skid Resistance Tester. The results show that slip resistance values (SRV) of the TGSI tested vary according to the way the test is performed. Since preventing slip-related accidents mostly depends on the slip resistance of pedestrian surfaces, more tests must be performed by using either the herein used or other methodologies, as foreseen for authors’ further research.
