Resumo (PT):
Abstract (EN): Water treatment by photocatalytic advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) has been a topic of extensive research due to the enormous potential of these technologies to abate both chemical and biological contaminants. This themed issue published in Current Opinion in Green and Sustainable Chemistry presents a collection of perspective reviews discussing the latest advances in and future directions for the photocatalytic degradation of pharmaceuticals and other contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) in water and wastewater. This collection gathers contributions of research groups from Europe (Spain, Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Ireland, United Kingdom), America (USA, Colombia), Asia (China, South Korea), and Oceania (Australia), discussing the recent trends of photocatalytic-based AOPs applied to the removal of pharmaceuticals and other CECs, antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB) and their counterpart genetic elements (antibiotic resistance genes e ARGs), cyanobacteria, and cyanotoxins.
