Abstract (EN):
The aim of this work was to test effect of some dietary compounds upon the uptake of glucose by the human placenta. The acute (26 min) and chronic (48 h) effect of several phenolic compounds and methylxanthines present in different beverages upon the uptake of H-3-2-deoxy-D-glucose (H-3-DG; I mu M) by the human trophoblast (BeWo) cell line was determined. Acutely, resveratrol (100 mu M), quercetin (10-100 mu M), epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG; 100 mu M), chrysin (10-100 mu M), xanthohumol (100 mu M) and acetaldehyde (30-100 mM) decreased H-3-DG uptake, whereas rutin (10-100 mu M), catechin (10-100 mu M) and epicatechin (100 mu M) increased it. Chronically, uptake of H-3-DG was decreased by theophylline (0.1-1 mu M) and was increased by myricetin and rutin (0.1-1 mu M). In conclusion, H-3-DG uptake is differentially modulated by different phenolic compounds and methylxanthines.
