Abstract (EN): This study reports the generation and characterization of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) microparticles. Droplets are produced in the jetting regime by hydrodynamic flow focusing technique in a PDMS square-section microchannel and afterwards thermally cured. Both the droplets and microparticles size distributions are characterized and compared. During the curing process, there is no appreciable shrinking of the droplets/microparticles. Droplets are generated with a maximum frequency of 1.3 kHz and their diameter ranges from 27 to 59 mu m depending on the flow rate ratio. After the cure, the microparticles are chemically and optically characterized. The results show that the droplet generation method and the curing process are able to produce PDMS microparticles with low size, low dispersity and optimal optical properties for visualization and velocimetry experiments.
