Resumo (PT):
Abstract (EN): The main objective of this work is to analyze the artificial nourishment impact and efficiency under the influence of a coastal structure, a groin. A movable bed reduced scale physical model was prepared and tested at the wave basin of the Hydraulics, Hydraulic Resources and Environment Section (SHRHA) of Porto University, in Portugal. The developed work consisted in modelling two main scenarios: a beach with a linear shoreline, and regular and parallel bathymetric contours, without the presence of hard coastal structures; and the same beach in the presence of a groin at its downdrift limit. In each scenario, an artificial nourishment was placed after subjecting each modelled beach to a random wave climate. It was observed a slower shoreline retreat along the tests for the scenario of the beach influenced by a groin, with and without the presence of an artificial beach nourishment. In both scenarios, adding the artificial nourishment lead to initially higher sediment transport rates and more intense morphological dynamics. The groin scenario proved to be the most efficient scenario by reducing the spreading of the introduced nourishment sediments
