Abstract (EN): The present work aimed to assess the temporal variations of sediment properties from the Reserva Ornitológica do Mindelo and the Reserva Natural Local do Estuário do Douro (Cabedelo). Quarterly, over one year, sediment samples were collected, and characterized according to particle size, spectrophotometry and magnetic susceptibility analyses. Considering the temporal variation during the period considered, particle size distribution, colour and magnetic susceptibility did not greatly varied at Mindelo but were comparatively more variable at Cabedelo. The importance of this work results from the fact that it constitutes the starting point for subsequent studies about the temporal variation of different properties of sediments and soils and its relation with the surrounding environment, which will establish the evidential value of these materials in forensic investigation. © 2014 LNEG - Laboratório Nacional de Geologia e Energia IP.
