This master's degree provides practical education and applied research in Clinical Communication, covering the clinical relationship with the patient in the primary, advanced, and specialized phases.
The program covers interview skills, managing emotions, dealing with bad news, motivational and family interviews, dealing with a patient who is unable to talk, anxious, or depressed, and adjusting to the age stages of the patient.
Modules in the curriculum include the patient-centered interview model, basic strategies and skills, active attention, relationship building, dealing with emotions, physical examination techniques, and preparing a therapeutic plan.
The course uses role-playing exercises with medical vignettes in the practice and assessment of the students, who take alternating roles as patients and clinicians. The master’s degree targets physicians, nurses, clinical psychologists, physical therapists, nutritionists, and speech and occupational therapists.
