The assessment of post-traumatic personal injury, aimed at guiding the appropriate reparation of this injury, whether judicial or extrajudicial, is an area that in Portugal is essentially the responsibility of forensic medicine, as it is an expert activity. In some respects, it has become autonomous from this specialty, not only because it often requires the contribution of various other medical specialties, but also because it is assumed that many specialists (especially those linked to trauma) may be qualified to carry out this activity. This is why, in Portugal, the Portuguese Medical Association has created a competence in the assessment of bodily injury, one of the mandatory criteria for admission to this competence being the completion of a course of the type proposed here.
