Molecular Medicine and Oncology

The MSc in Molecular Medicine and Oncology is a programme of study which leads to the Degree of Master of Science in Molecular Medicine and Oncology.

The MSc includes a lectural year made up of core and optional subjects, seminars or specific course attendance, as well as laboratory work and short term trainings for skill development, at different institutions.

It is hoped that the interdisciplinary nature of that year will allow the recognition of specific areas of interest and generate ideas and problems that may become the starting point to the build-up of a project, antedating the preparation of the essay and the achievement of the degree.
The development of the project may be done in institutions cooperating with the MSc or others, provided thay have recognized quality and are considered adequate by the student, the supervisor and the scientific committee.

The MSc Programme is organized by Faculdade de Medicina do Porto (FMUP) in cooperation with Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar (ICBAS) and in a close relationship with Instituto de Patologia e Imunologia Molecular da Universidade do Porto (IPATIMUP), Instituto de Biologia Molecular e Celular/Instituto de Engenharia Biomédica (IBMC/INEB), Centro Hospitalar S. João and Instituto Português de Oncologia, Porto.

It is coordinated by Prof. Henrique Almeida and the Scientific Committee includes Professors Davide Carvalho, Manuel Sobrinho Simões and Rui Medeiros. Professors Delminda Neves and Valdemar Máximo compose the Accompanying Committee.

Topics in the lectural programme: Molecular Biology, Molecular Biology Techniques (Hands-on), Cell Cycle & Apoptosis, Human Genetics and Disease, Oncobiology, Molecular Cytogenetics, Angiogenesis in Inflammation and Cancer, Pharmacogenomics and Molecular Epidemiology, Cardiac Insufficiency, Epigenetics and Cancer, Gerontology, Endocrine Pathology.
