Objectives

To gain theoretical and practical knowledge in the development and application of instruments for the evaluation of objective and subjective health measures.

Learning outcomes and competences

Students should be able of developing a questionnaire to assess objective and subjective health information and to test its validity and reliability, namely applying the apropriated statistical methods.
Should be able of perform a critical revision of a questionnaire and of a scale.
Should gain skills on the collection of health data, as well as in the identification of the main errors and the way of avoiding them.

Working method

Presencial

Pre-requirements (prior knowledge) and co-requirements (common knowledge)

Program

Evaluation of objective and subjective measurements: questionnaire design and structure; development of scales and index; To evalute the validity and reliability of the tools for measuring health.

Principal component analysis and factorial analyses; Internal consistency; Scoring scales; defining cut-off points.

Questionnaires’ applications: administration methods (advantages and disadvantages); Maximize the participation proportion; to reduce measurement errors and its effects.

Teaching methods and learning activities

As this curricular unit has 3 ECTs, it is estimated a total of 81 hours of total work by students; out of these 18h are of contact (10 theoretic-practical and 8 Laboratorial practical)

The teaching methodologies to be used will combine the theoretical dimension of the main concepts and problems related with measuring health techniques and the practical dimension through the development, by the students, of a tool and trough the evaluation of its psychometric properties. The development of the work group including the development in practice of a tool, its application on a convenience sample and the statistical analysis of data, is understood as a more effective option to promote student´s skills in health monitorization.

Learning assessment will include: group work- oral presentation (20%) written work (20%)+final written exam (60%).
