Blocks of 9 weeks, divided through specialties as followed: General Surgery - 5 weeks; Plastic, Reconstructive, Esthetic and Maxilo-facial Surgery - 1 week; Angiology and Vascular Surgery- 1 week; Thoracic Surger y- 1 week; Pediatric Surgery - 1 week.
In the log book is recorded the data from: Pedagogic modalities (attendance, participation, etc.), clinical histories and notes as well as acquired competences.
Assessment
Only encompasses formative evaluation. After qualitative evaluation considered as apt, is attributed a classification (scale from 0 to 20). To be considered apt the student must accomplish the following conditions: > 90% attendance, to perform at least two histories and 24 clinical notes, and to obtain on competences, at least, 70 points in General Surgery and 20 in each of the remaining surgical specialties. Quantitative evaluation takes in consideration knowledge and attitudes (0-6), clinical performance(0-8) and learning interest (0-6). To obtain a score higher than 17 (includes the Erasmus students), as well as to improve the classification of the formative evaluation, is required an exame.
Demonstration of the teaching methodologies coherence with the curricular unit’s intended learning outcomes.
The teaching methodology aims to integrate students in daily clinical practice in different workplaces medical and nursing staff (External Ambulatory, wards, operating theater and emergency room) taking into account a coherent and inclusive of various surgical areas.
