Abstract (EN): Most of the current intermodal applications for optimizing the travel costs in transport networks consider oneway journeys only, but most of the journeys do not consist of simple one-way trips, as vehicles or travellers usually return to the starting point. For the calculation of a roundtrip it is usual to consider two simple one-way trips which is not an accurate approach. Also the possibility of switching between different transportation modes during a trip is rarely offered. To overcome these limitations, a mathematical model for optimized intermodal roundtrips is formulated as a linear mixed binary program. The proposed model is used to minimize the travel cost associated to a roundtrip where different transport modes between two nodes of the transport network may be available for the user. Computational experience is also included in the paper to highlight the efficacy of the proposed methodology which may have application for ensuring the optimal integration of transport modes in transport networks
