Resumo (PT): O objectivo deste trabalho é estudar o acesso aberto, a sua generalização e o seu impacto no caso da investigação em Ciência da Informação, em Portugal. Para isso estudam-se os repositórios digitais que contêm materiais de interesse para a comunidade científica e universitária e os periódicos portugueses especializados na área. Para analisar os repositórios, com especial enfoque nos das universidades portuguesas, seleccionaram-se vários indicadores, que permitem dar uma visão global do seu funcionamento, evolução e repercussões. Estes indicadores fazem referência ao software usado para a criação do repositório, ao volume do mesmo, aos autores que os alimentam, à tipologia dos documentos que albergam e às redes de que fazem parte, quer a nível nacional, quer internacional. Uma vez descrito o panorama dos repositórios, realiza-se um estudo exploratório para determinar o impacto do acesso aberto em Ciência da Informação, tomando por base os periódicos, os repositórios universitários que integram o RCAAP e o repositório especializado E-LIS. Os resultados reflectem um estado ainda incipiente, quer da participação de editores no movimento do acesso aberto, quer da utilização dos repositórios e do auto-arquivo, não sendo ainda possível estabelecer uma correspondência positiva directa entre acesso aberto e impacto da investigação.

Abstract (EN): The main purpose of this paper is to study the open access, its generalization and impact in what concerns Information Science, in Portugal. Thus, the repositories that keep works of interest for the scientific and academic community are analysed, as well as the Portuguese periodicals in the area of Information Science. In order to analyse the repositories, with special focus in those of Portuguese universities, were selected several indicators, which enable to have a general vision of their way of functioning, evolution and effects. These indicators refer to the software used in the creation of the repository, its dimension, the authors involved, the typology of the documents and those networks to which they belong, as nationally, as internationally. Once the overview of the repositories is done, an exploratory study is taken on in order to know the impact of the open access in Information Science, taking as a basis of analysis the periodicals, the universities’ repositories that integrate RCAAP and the specialized repository E-LIS. The results reflect a quite incipient situation, either in what concerns to the participation of publishers in the open access movement, or the use of the repositories and the self-archive. It is not possible yet to establish a direct and positive correspondence between open access and research impact.
