The Midnight Rotating Tree: keytalks, drawing classes and workshops about Circles

13 & 14 September 2024 | 10h00 | Sala do Departamento de Filosofia & Online

This event is part of a seminar series about trees and circles called The Midnight Rotating Tree. It is inspired by the short tale “The Midnight Library”, written by Matt Haig and affiliated with the research project “Hacking the Good Life”, which investigates a diagrammatic book-game that is half a millennium old.

Both seminars (July and September) will have an essentially critical and creative nature, where participants will have the opportunity to recreate and explore concepts, combining them under different visual formulas (trees and rotating circles).

KEYTALKS, DRAWING CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS ABOUT CIRCLES

The second seminar’s “key talks” will cover over one thousand years of the history of circles in art, science and faith as tools to communicate and transmit different forms of knowledge. There will also be two practical components (a drawing class and a workshop) involving the manipulation and redesign of this visual archetype - in physical and digital media - applying other themes to them, from logic, visual arts, or even literature.

Register until the 8th September

Due to the practical nature of this seminar, we will have 10 spots available for participants who want to attend in person. The talks and the workshop will also be transmitted via Zoom, so please let us know in what modality you wish to attend when you register.
