Changing to a different institution/course pair




Students seeking to enrol in a different higher education institution or course may request a Course Change or Transfer , whether their enrolment in a higher education institution has been suspended or not.

Students may apply to a transfer within the same higher education institution or to a different one. Applications to a Course Change or Transfer are pursuant to Regulation no. 749/2019 (U.Porto’s Generic Legislation regarding the regimes of Course Change, Transfer and Re-Admission - available in Portuguese only).

Vacancies per Course



Students may request a course change or transfer insofar as:

  • they have been enrolled in, but haven’t completed, a higher education course.
  • they have completed upper secondary education national exams required by the intended course as entrance examinations, in the year of application, within the general admissions regime; and those who achieved at least the minimum scores required by the higher education institution in the year of application, as per the admission regime.


Documentation required for online application:

  • Certificate of approved courses/subjects from a higher education institution indicating the attendance regime (semi-annual or annual) and UC/ECTS earned.
  • If you cannot obtain a certificate containing all these elements, you must add a discriminative list of the courses/subjects taken with the missing information.
  • Students of this institution must attach only a discriminative list of subjects/courses indicating the regime (semi-annual or annual) and UC/ECTS numbers.
  • If you did not obtain approval in the courses/subjects, you need a certificate of enrolment in higher education.
  • For qualifications obtained abroad, all documents must be authenticated by the official education services of the respective country and recognized by the Portuguese diplomatic or consular authority or have the apostille of the Hague Convention.  The same applies to translations of documents whose original language is not Spanish, French or English. (Mandatory)
  • Certificate of approval in (or equivalence to) secondary education subjects corresponding to the entrance tests required for the application (Mandatory)
  • ID. If you have not submitted a copy of the identification document, you must present the original document in the Academic Services of the Faculty, within the deadline for applications, for verification of the data entered. The application will not be confirmed until after this validation. (Optional)
  • Other documents considered relevant to the application or the selection criteria. (Optional)

Admission criteria:

  • Highest grade in the entrance examination required by the intended course of study;
  • Highest number of ECTS;
  • In order to be admitted into:
    - 2nd year – the director of a course of study shall acknowledge at least 48 ECTS obtained by the applicant in the 1st year;
    - 3rd year – the director of a course of study shall acknowledge at least 108 ECTS obtained by the applicant in the 1st and 2nd years.

Tie-breaking criteria of candidates:

  • Highest scores on the access tests for each study cycle, in accordance with articles 9, 10 and 12 of Decree 181-D/2015



General Remarks:

  • Application fee of ¤55, non-refundable;
  • Payment checking account -> create an ATM, MB Way or credit card reference.
