Objectives

To add to students' understanding of issues concerning ethics and moral philosophy as well as to nurture students' development of reasoning skills.

Program

I. Fundamental Ethical Theories
Ancient Era: Plato, Aristotle, Epicurus and Stoicism. The sceptic and the cynical.
Mediaeval Era: Christian Moral: Augustine and Aquinas.
Modern Era: Spinoza, Hume and Kant
19th century: Hegel, Stuart Mill, Karl Marx and Nietzsche
20th century: G. H. Moore, Max Scheler, E. Lévinas, Jean- Paul Sartre and José Luís L. Aranguren.
The present time: Karl-Otto Apelo, Hans Jonas, John Rawls, Jurgen Habermas, A. Macintyre, Paul Ricoeur and A.Comte-Sponville.
