Objectives

The main goal of the course is to familiarize students with Portuguese medieval culture, placing it in its European and Mediterranean context. By studying troubadour poetry, the students will be able to recognize the different cultural heritages that make up the Galician-Portuguese literary tradition.

Learning outcomes and competences

At the end of this course, in addition to skills in analyzing troubadour compositions as literary objects and sociocultural manifestations, students should be able to recognize the importance of the Middle Ages as a formative period for Portuguese-speaking cultures and the impact of the literary tradition of this period on later culture.

3. 2 The first generation of troubadours (c. 1196-1220): continuities and ruptures with the Occitan model.

IV. The second generation of troubadours and the subversion of the amorous game.
4. 1 The emergence of the genre of amigo in its socio-cultural context
4. 2 Key elements of the cantares de amigo: the sheltered young woman as an object of male desire.
