Objectives

At the end of this UC it is expected that students will be able to:
1. Develop an individual work of research, leading to the development of a scientific dissertation or an applied project on a topic of the knowledge study cycle;
2. Demonstrate the integration and application of knowledge, skills and attitudes acquired during the CE by solving relatively complex problems;
3. Promote the development of capacities of initiative, decision-making, innovation, creative and critical thinking;
4. Demonstrate skills in information collection and analysis, selection of methodological approaches and resolution tools of a research problem.

Learning outcomes and competences

This UC aims to develop an individual research/project work intended to integrate and apply knowledge, skills and attitudes acquired during the SC. The drafting process of the dissertation/project aims to promote the development and strengthening of the research capacity, initiative and decision, the application of a method to organize and write a scientific text.
The route and the individual student's progress are always on the scope of the thesis advisor, which discusses the data, methodologies, and results and facilitates contacts with other researchers and institutions as necessary.

The final dissertation or project, as well as its presentation, aims to develop in students the knowledge and skills necessary to prepare a research project to train it for public presentation and discussion of the results of his work.

In this UC there is no specific syllabus because the students will look into multiple research topics covering various fields of knowledge relating to the master course.

Teaching methods and learning activities

There are no formal classes. Periodically or as needed, the student meets with the advisor to assess the progress of work and get feedback about the following steps.

The work is individual but can be developed within a team in charge of a project.

Calculation formula of final grade

The dissertation or project classification is defined by the weighted assessment by the jury of the following criteria:

- Quality of work (structure, correctness, clarity, style, among others);

- State-of-the-art quality and their suitability to work goals;

- Quality of the written text (correction, depth and expertise);

- Depth and innovation of the work;

- Critical analysis of the quality of contribution and results;

- Quality of the oral presentation and argumentation in public discussion.
