Objectives

 Objectives

1. Knowledge of the origin and structure of the main processes of social (re)production in Portuguese contemporary society, taking as reference the political regimes structured in the country during the XX century and the logic of its configuration in our days;

2. Identification and comprehension of the differentiated processes of structuration of the social and institutional spaces in Portuguese social formation; 

3. Comparative knowledge of the main specificities of Portuguese social situation, taking as reference the current social situation in the country and in the other country members of European Union.

* Depth of field theories and studies on the structure and the Remaking of contemporary Portuguese society.

* Field of construction methodologies of sociological knowledge on contemporary Portuguese society.

* Ability to produce reflection and sociological analysis informed the Portuguese contemporary social reality in the light of comparative approaches.

1. An introduction to the sociology of the mechanisms and of the systems of strategies of social reproduction in contemporary Portugal.

2. Political regimes, social space and configuration of everyday life in Portugal: demography, economic activity, institutional dynamics, classes and class cultures (1910-1974).

3. Transition to democracy, democracy consolidation and the dynamics of structuration of Portuguese social space: demographic transformations, recomposition of economic activity, classes and class cultures (1974-2011).

4. Socioeconomic inequalities, values and social mobilizations: a comparative analysis of the Portuguese and European situations (recent trends).

Evaluation of knowledge

Final written exam;
Individual essay;
All the elements of the evaluation are required for assessment purposes. 

Calculation formula of final grade

It is a condition to the approval of the course, the performance of all components of assessment and obtain a score greater than or equal to 10 values in the written examination and a score greater or equal to 8 in the essay.

The final mark will be calculated under the following way:

. Final written exam (70%)
2. Individual essay (30%)

 

 

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

Students who, under Article 9 of the Standards Assessment of knowledge, are not covered by the component attendance are required to contact the teacher at the beginning of the period of operation of the subject, for the purpose of establishment of the respective procedures for assessing knowledge .

Classification improvement

Students may ask to improve their grades. The improvement of grades applies to the final exam.

Observations

The supplementary period of assessment includes performing a new final exam, and a new written essay. 

To calculate the
final score will be kept strictly the same conditions for approval for the course and the weights of all the components listed in the final classification. The written examination will have a weight of 70% in the final mark; the individual essay will have a weight of 30% in the final mark.


Throughout the semester the teacher provides supplementary bibliography, abstracts and developed teaching materials.

At the beginning of the semester the teacher will mark office hours for students. Beyond this time the teacher will be available to meet by appointment to combine timely.
