Objectives
Journalism as the central axis of communication and citizenship and its foundational elements. New challenges are part of social, cultural, economic and political contexts being the issue of credibility. These concepts will be dealt with in the expository classes.
Knowledge, understanding and problematizing skills to produce innovative knowledge. These competences are acquired through the equation, research and debate in class, based on theory and practical cases.
The importance of sources as a professional procedure. Innovations in the elaboration of news and correlations with the fact-checking processes. Fake-news and Fact-checking mechanisms.
Transformations brought by IT and understand how news production, consumption and credibility relationships have changed.
To develop the ability to reflect on learning processes, studies, reports, codes and research networks.
Being capable of autonomy of study and initiative, originality and integration of the topics covered.
Learning outcomes and competences
Evaluation takes into consideration the proposed learning objectives and how they are integrated by students.
The work carried out and the participation in class must reveal the capability of understanding and problematizing, towards the production of innovative knowledge.
The evaluation processes will identify the skills acquired in the field of media and journalism. One of the outputs of this curricular unit will be the production of knowledge and innovation in topics such as theories about the fundamentals of journalism, new sources of news, narratives and news frameworks, impacts of IT, audiences, among others.
From the point of view of the final learning results, the theoretical-practical classes allow a grounded knowledge of the subjects, while the sessions with guests promote a closer perspective of the central issues of journalism and the media.
The evaluation also allows for the assessment of the autonomy of study and initiative, originality and integration of the topics addressed

Teaching methods and learning activities
Expository component from a perspective of approaching the conceptual aspects of the field of journalism, based on classic conceptual aspects, but with the integration of new elements and approaches. The lectures are conceived as a space for reflection and debate with students, with the aim of identifying the dynamics of Journalism as the central axis of communication and citizenship and the specificities of
its foundational elements. Identify and expose new models of digital communication, transformations in digital journalism, disinformation and fact-checking. Examples will be presented as working elements.
Classes with guests will be prepared in order to obtain an optimization in the questions posed in the expository sessions and space for debate.
The monitoring of students aims to guide the study through recommended readings and appropriate research methodologies in the different aspects addressed in media and journalism studies.

Preparation and presentation of research work (with mandatory minimum approval of grade 10).
The final work must contain a theoretical component, being a case study or a developed essay.
