Objectives
Provide an overview of the global French-language cultures produced in particular in a peripheral context in relation to France.
Learning outcomes and competences
At the end of the semester, students must have had a critical and documented contact with a geographically and thematically representative cast of diverse cultural aspects and issues that mark Francophone peoples and spaces, and which have repercussions on, or influence global culture.Likewise, they will have to have read and analyzed some fictional texts that address these issues.

The course program will cover the following topics, which guarantee a general presentation of the framework and the problematization of issues related to Francophonies in their spatial-temporal, geographical and cultural variety, as well as in the global context. The following thematic points will be addressed:
1. Geographical and institutional Francophony;
2. Francophony in globalization;
3. Topics on Francophone cultures;
4. Francophonies and narrative fiction.

Teaching methods and learning activities
Theoretical-practical exposition of the theoretical and contextual component of the UC, as well as the various topics, some of them being objects of a presentation/debate by the students.
Presentation systematized in PTT slideshows and organization of conferences with Francophone themes within the framework of the annual Francophonie Week at FLUP.

Average: 2 written tests (60%) + one work presentation (30%) + participation (10%)

Classification improvement
Students who wish to improve their final mark may only repeat ONE written test. Students must inform their teacher in writing (via email) which test they wish to repeat. Students must also be properly enrolled for ‘melhoria’ with the ‘Serviços Académicos’ so that their names are included in the marks list on Sigarra.
