Objectives

The UC’s main aim is that all the developed projects are oriented to the application of new ways of interaction, in the context of a user's web-documentary. To do so, the UC is strictly linked to topics related to Human-Computer Interaction and to the identification of access, participation, reciprocity, step-by-step communication, agency, presence and feedback. This UC is directed to the development of technical, theoretical and methodological skills, and aims to create unique and original web-documentaries in multidisciplinary teams, investigating different ways of interaction, through theory and application of concepts, procedures and approaches of the UC.

Learning outcomes and competences

At the end of the UC, students will be able to recognize the main conceptual trends and techniques of Web-documentary, paying particular attention to new ways of interaction and interdisciplinary dynamics, as well as different media such as video, audio, text and photography in a whole project, performed and developed by a multidisciplinary team, with specific objectives.

With an essentially laboratory character, this UC focuses on the importance of different and individual parts/Stages of the project, from pre-production, through the development to post-production, for the acquisition of methodological skills.  Starting from a documentary language, the UC focuses on new paradigms of interaction and participation in the context of digital media, opening a path to new non-linear narratives.

In this UC we value the relationship with the professional context, more specifically in the phase of the presentation of the final projects, where projects will be publicly presented in front of a jury, in festival-format. The jury will consist of film

Program

The UC will be divided in three different phases: the first one will focus on case-studies, where will be shown and discussed the different Web-documentary techniques, both technically and conceptually, and the different ways of interaction for the user. In the second phase will be shown the main content ideas for the final projects, where in particular the methodologies and the main objectives will be discussed and defined. In the third and last phase students will work on the final project, based on the main objectives and all the considerations developed.

The following concepts will be studied:

         - Understanding the different possibilities of interaction – Human-Computer-Interaction (HCI)

         - Investigate the user’s interaction in the web-documentary

         - Analysis, documentation and communication of user’s experience

         - Principles and patterns of interaction for interactive media

         - Content strategy and analysis of objectives

         - identify access; participation; reciprocity; step-by-step communication

         - Identify the Agency concept, Presence and Feedback

Teaching methods and learning activities

The UC articulates expositive classes and the development of the final projects. The first part of the classes will focus on the presentation of case-studies, the second part will aim to ‘defend’ the developed ideas based on the objectives. Lastly, the final projects will be developed, divided In three different phases (pre-production; main development; post-production). Each phase will have a specific moment for discussion and assessment of the on-going work.

Type of evaluation: the examination will be done through the presentation of the final project, based on the student’s presence and participation in class. Classes of this UC will be both theoretical and practical:

- Expositive classes

- Mentoring classes between teams, teachers and industry representative

- Autonomous research

- Theoretical and technical documentation

- Development and presentation of the final project

Evaluation formula: Average classification of the different phases of the developed project. Weighted by the presence and participation of students in class.

CF = F1 * 30% + F2 * 30% + F3 * 30% + AC * 10%* CF - Final Classification* F1, F2, F3 - Project phases* AC - Distributed assessment without final exam.
