Objectives

Within the scope of the Master's, this course intends to draw the participants' attention to a reflection on cultural and religious structures and the way in which they are essential in defining mental structures. They are key to understanding a given society, including its heritage.

Regarding the common effort of all curricular units of the Master's to propose, clarify and exercise the stages of construction of an investigation around heritage, from a history perspective, this module aims to provide theoretical reflections and factual information about some cultural and religious topics.

Learning outcomes and competences

• To develop research in the field of cultural history.


• To contribute, in an original way, to historical and cultural studies, in dialogue with the existing historiography.


• Produce critical knowledge about any aspect of cultural history.


• Be able to understand the historical and cultural contexts of heritage.

Eligibility for exams

Since the teaching load is concentrated in just five sessions, it is essential that students are present in all of them.

Students who, due to their status and working hours, cannot participate in all teaching units, should contact the teacher, at the beginning of classes, to arrange work on an extraordinary schedule and should carry out various exercises to replace the practices laboratory tests performed during the sessions.

Calculation formula of final grade

Oral presentation = 25%

Essay = 75%
