Objectives

The objectives of the CU are: 1. strengthen the foundations of grammatical analysis that were acquired by the students at Elementary and Secondary School; 2. promote the knowledge of central notions in Morphology, Morphossyntax, Syntax; 3. develop students' methods of grammatical description (to observe, to find regularities, to build generalizations and rules starting from linguistic data); 4. improve students' writing skills.

Learning outcomes and competences

At the end of the CU, the students should have 1. strengthened the foundations of grammatical analysis that have been acquired at Elementary and Secondary School; 2. acquired the knowledge of central notions in Morphology, Morphossyntax, Syntax; 3. developed some methods of grammatical description (to observe, to find regularities, to build generalizations and rules starting from linguistic data). Summarizing, students should obtain the basis of grammatical reflection. With this CU we also aim to improve students's writing skills.

4. Basic notions of Phonetics and Phonology

4.1. Consonants, vowels, semivowels or glides

4.2. Diphthongs; hiatus

4.3. The accent; classification of words according to accent; the general accent rule in Portuguese

4.4. Atonic vowels in Portuguese.

Eligibility for exams

75% class attendance, except for the cases predicetd by law.

Calculation formula of final grade

Two tests throughout the semester counting 50% each. Students must obtain 9,5 or more in each test. In the special cases in which the student only does final exam: 100%.
