Objectives

1. To help students develop skills to perform scientific research tasks or to support scientific research.
2. To involve students in the dynamics of research, stimulating their participation in teams, groups and research projects.
3. To confront students with the practical use of essential knowledge acquired in the previous semesters, at both theoretical and methodological levels.
4. To develop students’ spirit of responsibility.
5. To contribute to students’ in-depth study of theoretical knowledge and methodological skills.

Learning outcomes and competences

The students should:
1. Have aquired skills to perform scientific research tasks or to support scientific research;
2. To be able to devellop practical use of essential knowledge acquired in the previous semesters, at both theoretical and methodological levels;
3. To be able to devellop  in-depth study of theoretical knowledge and methodological skills.

Types of projects: The Linguistic lecturers involved in the course will prepare a list of projects available.
Each proposal will be described briefly as to:
1. the identification of main scientific area;
2. the objectives and nature of the project;
3. the lecturer responsible and
4. eventual requirements to participate in the project.

Projects will depend on the availability of lecturers of the Language Science course. Type of participation in the project: Students will be integrated into existing or newly formed teams, groups or research projects in Linguistics, and they will be given tasks and objectives achievable within no more than three months, which students must develop on their own but in close contact with the lecturer responsible for the project and, when applicable, with the other team members.

Comments from the literature

 The particular reading list will depend on each project and will be presented by the lecturer in charge, according to the themes proposed and chosen by the students.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Project supervision: Each project will have a lecturer in charge, from the Language Science course with teaching duties assigned for the semester in which the project will be done, who will be responsible for supervising and assessing the students.

The Head of the Language Science course will ensure the coordination among all the projects and their supervisors.

Each project will be presented in a public session specially organized for that purpose.

Calculation formula of final grade

1. Monography (detailed report of the work completed; 10-15 A4 pages, with the scientific project description, results and resources used, theoretical framework and literature sources), to be submitted to the lecturer by the 16th June. Subject to discussion with the supervisor.
2. Oral presentation will take place on the 22th of june, in a public session.

The supervisor will be responsible for assessing each project, taking into account:
1. the quality of the work;
2. the assiduity to the meetings and
3. the oral presentation.

Work with the lecturer in charge of the project:10%
Project oral presentation: 20%
Research and essay: 70%

Classification improvement

Only the written essay can be subjet to improvement of overall classification.
