Objectives

Through the contrast of the Portuguese and Spanish and the use of texts with different characteristics in the native language, the student should be able to develop his analytical skills to interpret the text role and adequacy to the target language. It is also wanted that the student achieves knowledge of the translation theory to its appliance in dexterity translation practices (translate texts applying the most adequate strategy techniques to each context and to discuss in a critical way the translated texts)

Learning outcomes and competences

At the end of the semester, the student will be capable of:

1. Acquire appropriate principles of translation

2. Learn to analyze a text regarding to its translation

3. Know how to properly use the documentation procedures

4. Learn to apply the concept of equivalence in translation

5. Learn about some of the procedures and methods of translation

6. Review and grade translations

Eligibility for exams

Attending 75% of classes, unless established otherwise by law.
As it is a practical subject, students must perform 4 translations during the semester, with a value of 5 points each. In the case of not performing some of the translations to note, the student fail the course.

 

Calculation formula of final grade

Works: 80% Exam: 20%

Students will translate different texts taking into account the theory revised during the semester.

Students may raise the first text translated  during the semester and at the end of the semester, can improve the translation with the lowest grade.
