Objectives
Students are aimed to acquire enough knowledge about Spanish morphology and syntax, so that they can compare them to similar aspects in other languages. Likewise, they are aimed to understand the connection between Linguistics and other fields, specifically regarding the relation that settles down between language, society and culture.
Learning outcomes and competences
- Reflect upon linguistic system of Spanish language, by identifying the main aspects related to communication and language.
- Understand the relations that settle down among the several language sub- systems (from the morpheme to the text).
- Put theoretical knowledge into practice (morphological and syntactical analysis).
- Learn and use properly the metalanguage of Spanish language.

Teaching methods and learning activities
This not mandatory class attendance UC is divided into theory/practice and tutorial sessions.
Study materials (whose content complements what will be taught during the sessions) will be available in AEFLUP´s copy shop.
Proposed exercises will be available at Sigarra before each session.
Class attendance is not mandatory but is highly recommended.

Eligibility for exams
Accordance with Assessment Regulations in force.
Calculation formula of final grade
Mandatory group writing assignment – 30% of final grade; Exam – 70% of final grade.
Students who fail to deliver the mandatory written assignement will not be allowed to go the exam in both assessment periods (ordinary and extraordinary).

Classification improvement

The improvement of classification is only provided for the written exam.
Observations
This year the mandatory assignement will focus on Sociolinguistics.
The theoretical/practical exam will be organized from a text.
Students do not need to get a minimum mark in the exam for the mark obtained in the group written assignment to be added.
