Objectives

.Can understand the essentials when clear and standard language is used and if it is familiar with work, school, hobbies, etc.
.Can cope with most situations when traveling to a region where the target language is spoken.
.Can produce a simple and coherent speech on familiar topics and in his fields of interest.
.Can tell an event, experience or dream, describe a hope or purpose, and briefly explain reasons or explanations for a project or idea

Learning outcomes and competences

By the end of the semester students should be able to:

• understand authentic audio and audiovisual documents slowly and clearly spoken;

• read and understand descriptive, narrative texts and dialogues;

•express themselves orally , with or without preparation, on the themes discussed in class;

• write short descriptive and narrative texts and dialogues. Students should also have acquired geographical and cultural information on France and the French speaking countries.

Pre-requirements (prior knowledge) and co-requirements (common knowledge)

A level test will be carried out if necessary at the beginning of the semester so that the teacher can ensure that the student is enrolled in the corresponding level.

Program

1/ Developpment of oral skills (oral presentations in small groups, spoken interactions)

2/ Oral comprehension : listening to various authentic or semi-authentic audio/adiovisual documents.

3/ Production and comprehension of written documents based upon themes studied in class in order to use vocabulary and grammar learned in class, helping students to understand their mistakes.

4/ Exploring learning strategies : incite students to learn how to learn.

A literary work will be offered to students from the beginning of the semester and will be evaluated.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Communicative and actional approach, based on tasks.

The proposed activities focus on developing skills and self-reliance through the performance of a variety of individual or group tasks with the intention of achieving results to be shared in progress.

These tasks include (1) the individual search for lexical information to be shared in progress (2) The search for various information to be shared in progress; (3) Preparation and presentation of dialogues; (4) writing course texts; (5) an individual or group oral presentation.

Eligibility for exams

Students are required to attend 75% of classes. Exceptions according to FLUP regulations.

Calculation formula of final grade

"Normal Epoca":
Written and oral participation: 20% (minimum 75% attendance and completion of 75% of the proposed tasks in class and at home)
Written exam: 40% (minimum 9/20 to be able to sit for the oral exam)
Oral exam: 40% (comprehension, continuous production and interaction)
The average of the written and oral exam must be greater than 10/20.

"Epoca de Recurso", "Época Especial" and Students enjoying a special status (TE, DA, etc.):
Written examination: 50% (minimum 9/20 to be able to take the oral examination)
