Objectives

This unit introduces the technical and conceptual instruments of the photographic grammar. It is also the place to start the learning of the hybrid processes (analog vs. digital)
which explore the specificity of the photographic medium towards the development of an individual practice.
This unit favors a methodology that recognizes the practices of the photography throughout its history, encouraging the development of works that articulate an autonomous and critical discourse.

Learning outcomes and competences

The learning is carried out sequentially through practical work modules accompanied by lectures:

To understand, seeing and doing, the importance of images and photography in the contemporary press.
Understand the role of the photojournalist in the information and production of news in the various media of photography, both analog and digital, currently used.

Eligibility for exams

Assessment is systematic and continuous. For the weighting of the value to be assigned in each of these moments and for each of the work proposals, the following factors are considered:
1. Acquisition, articulation and application of concepts.
2. Scientific and technological curiosity.
3. The use of an appropriate conceptual and technical language.
4. Compliance with deadlines for submission of works.

Calculation formula of final grade

The final evaluation is done through the practical works, complementary to the contents lectured in classes, that should be organized in the individual photographic blog produced by the students.
Proposals that were not followed up during their implementation will not be considered for the final evaluation.

Examinations or Special Assignments

Failure to participate in at least 75% of the classes may require oral discussion of the evaluation elements presented, which will be indicated by the teacher until the end of the respective academic period, and also a theoretical / practical test on the subjects introduced within in this unit.
