Objectives

German A1.2 is the follow-up of German A1.1. It is designed for learners of German as a foreign language who at the beginning of the 1st semester had no prior knowledge of this language. The aim is that students achieve a level of knowledge corresponding to A1.2 (elementary user) of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) in all skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing.

Through the work with the textbook, which contains a wide range of tasks and exercises designed to develop the skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening) and the vocabulary in a systematic and progressive way, students consolidate and deepen their knowledge and linguistic capacities as set the CEFR for this level of study of the German language - essential tools to master various communicative situations that occur in everyday life. In addition, students are faced with the culture / reality of German-speaking countries by reading short texts and by watching / hearing audiovisual materials. Their grammatical knowledge is acquired through further study of textual phenomena in context (syntax, conjugation of verbs, verbs with separable particles, verb tenses, declination of adjectives, pronouns, negation) which also contributes to broadening the range of comprehension strategies.



The study of the German language in the A1.2 level is enhanced by extra learning materials found on the Moodle Platform . This method of learning (b -learning) contributes to increase the autonomy of students.

This course assumes familiarity with the contents taught in the level A1.1.

Program

In the unit course A1.2 topics related to situations that occur in everyday life, for example, furniture, color, orientation in the city, clothing, food (at the restaurant, party), looking for accommodation, graphics. These themes will be worked on all skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing).

Several grammatical aspects will be a matter of reflection, analysis and practical exercises :

1. The sentence: declarative , negative , interrogative and imperative clauses ; distribution of elements in the sentence.
2. The verb: verb tenses : present, past times , modal verbs, verbs with a separable prefix.
3. Prepositions (of place): acusative and dative.
4. The pronouns: personal pronouns, possessive and indefinite pronouns (nominative and acusative).
5. The adjective: the use of the adjective with undefined, negative and possessive articles (nominative and acusative)
6. Nominalization (verbs and adjectives): eg. essen - das Essen; neu - etwas Neues.
7. Compounds.
8. Modal particles.
9. Pronunciation and spelling: Relationship between spelling and pronunciation, German phonemes that have no equivalent in Portuguese, the rhythm in the German sentence.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical and practical classes; different teaching strategies, group work or individual work, particular importance is given to active participation by students. The type of assessment is the distributed evaluation without final exam, which implies an active and continuous participation by the student: doing homework, preparing the reading aloud of a text, writing tests; delivering presentations using powerpoint.

Eligibility for exams

In order to pass the class, the student must achieve at least ten points in the weighted average of the written and oral component on a scale of 0-20 points.

The written component includes a test (40%) and a final exam (60%). The approval implies that the weighted average of both tests results in a positive average.

 
Working students and other students legally released from class attendance should contact the teacher early at the beginning of the semester in order to combine an alternative assessment.

Calculation formula of final grade

Written evaluation, which consists of 1 test and a final exam - 70%.

Oral assessment - 30%.
