Objectives

To make students aware of basic, introductory aspects of psycholinguistics; to develop students’ critical reasoning.

Learning outcomes and competences

 

To enable the students to deal critically with topics related to this curricular unit and to write academic works with the rigor required at this level.

1. Distinguishing linguistics, psycholinguistics and psychology of language. 2. Language and cognition: definition and possible relations between both. 2.1. A practical approach of the language-cognition dichotomy. 3. Hesitation in discourse; psycholinguistic aspects. 3.1. Trasncribing oral discourse. 3.1.1. Orthographic transcription and its filtering effect. 3.1.2. Psycholinguistic “deafness” and hearer’s age. 4. Individual differences and information processing. 5. Introduction to the analysis of different practices of oral and written language. 5.1. Computer-mediated language.
