Portuguese

Objectives

Based on the theoretical and methodological fundamentals acquired in Syntax I, the aim is to expand the range of syntactic phenomena, analysing the syntax of subordination and coordination.

Learning outcomes and competences

Based on the knowledge acquired in Syntax I, the learning outcomes are related to the range of syntactic phenomena to other types of clauses and to complex sentences. At the end of the CU, students should understand the differences and similarities between wh interrogatives and relative clauses; clearly distinguish between a relative clause, embedded in the NP and a complement clause selected by a matrix predicate; understand the main properties of coordination and adverbial subordination.

These learning outcomes should be acquired not only in Portuguese but also in other known languages.
