Successful students will have developed their independence and their linguistic, sociolinguistic and pragmatic skills in order to achieve CEFR level C1 in most skills.
Successful students will be able to:
1. understand extended oral and multimedia materials in standard spoken language or not, even when the speech is not clearly structured and when relationships are only implied;
2. understand complex specialised articles, technical instructions and literary texts, appreciating distinctions of style and interpreting implied meaning;
3. interact fluently and spontaneously in formal and informal oral communication situations;
4. deliver clear, detailed and coherent oral presentations on complex subjects;
5. write well-structured texts in a clear, precise and concise style appropriate for the reader in mind.
1. Self-assessment; identification of gaps and definition of strategies to fill them.
2. Oral skills development.
2.1. Understanding authentic materials, both in standard and non-standard language.
2.2. Individual topic-specific presentations and spontaneous or organised discussion (debates).
3. Reading and writing skills development.
3.1. Reading literary, scientific and technical texts.
3.2. Writing different types of texts, simple (message on a forum) or complex (reading report), in an appropriate style.
4. Linguistic, socio-linguistic and pragmatic skills development.
4.1. Strengthening of language skills: modality, cohesion and coherence, denotation and connotation, text types, language registers, vocabulary and phraseology.
4.2. OIF and francophony: a multicultural community among others.
Interactive and task-oriented approach.
The proposed activities aim to develop students’ skills and autonomy by completing various tasks, individually or in a group, in order to achieve results to be shared in class or on the Moodle platform.
These tasks include (1) search for lexical information to be shared on the e-learning platform (glossary); (2) search for language resources and literary, scientific and technical materials to be commented and shared on the e-learning platform (forum); (3) group role-playing exercises (debates) and individual oral presentations; (4) writing several text types; (5) listening, reading and multimedia comprehension of authentic oral, written or multimedia materials; (6) reflection on learning outcomes.
