Objectives

Objectives:

1) Key points of the Spanish Literature in the 20th century.

2) To get know and to analyze the work of renown Spanish authors of this period.

3) To establish relations between literature and other contemporary art forms.

4) To characterize the dependency of today’s literature with the nuances and meanings of ideas and political powers.

5) To get familiar with the interesting and fertile Spanish artistic movement of the pre-civil war period.

With all of this, we pretend to help the student to understand and comprehend the social, intellectual and artistic evolutions that conform to the Spain of today.

 

Learning outcomes and competences

At the end of the subject, the student should reach  a wide knowledge of the most distinguished Spanish literary and cultural references of the XX century, and should apply this knowledge, as well as his own critical point of view, to the analysis of literary texts studied in class.

I. The Spanish literature before the Civil War: 1900-1936.

1. The end of the century’s generation.

2.  The nineteenth century and the vanguards.

3. The poetic group of 27.

4. The Federico García Lorca theatre.

II. The Spanish literature after 1936.

5. The theatre, from 1936 to 1975.

6. The novel, from 1936 to 1975.

7. Juan Marsé: Últimas tardes con Teresa (1966).

8. The poetry, between 1936 and 1975.

9. Approach to the Spanish literature from 1975 to nowadays.
