Teaching methods and learning activities

The main purpose of this course is that students accomplish the objectives established by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages for this level, in which learners should be able to understand the main points of a clear text in the standard language (...) , in a professional, study or leisure context, and be able to deal with most situations that may arise during a journey through spaces where the target language is used, producing simple and coherent texts and describing experiences, events, desires and aspirations, as well as briefly justifying their opinions and plans.
To achieve the previously mentioned objectives, the simultaneous practice of theory and practice (practical classes/seminars) is essential as well as enabling students to demonstrate their knowledge at the time of assessment. Therefore all tasks focus on diverse, complementary aspects, worked during the semester.
All communicative activities (oral and written expression, oral and written interaction, reading comprehension and mediation) are performed in class; however, special attention will be given to the activities of production, once the majority of students show more difficulties in this type of activities. Hence, production activities will be performed both in the classroom and through homework and assessment tests so that the spontaneous participation of students dealing with topics both of personal or academic interest (cultural and abstract topics, sports, ecology...), the ability to report events and describe situations (using arguments and reasoning) and the ability to write long sequences with a certain purpose may be achieved.
The main types of texts to be used to achieve these goals are: formal letters asking for information, argumentative and opinion texts/essays on various topics worked in the classroom.
