Objectives

- Relate the representative function of language with its communicative and enunciative function;

- Develop the competence of explicit reflection on the portuguese language
- Acquire techniques for oral and written communication in Portuguese in a wide variety of text types;
- Develop grammatical, discursive, social and cultural competences.

Learning outcomes and competences

By the end of the semester, the students should be able to:

- Be aware of the linguistic choices made in each moment of the oral and written productions;

- Analyse and reflect on the various levels of the discourses structure: morphologic; lexical; syntactic; semantic and pragmatic;

- Apply tecnhiques of communication and expression in portuguese in the various text types.

1. Communication

- The communicative act / interactive act;

- Components and conditioning factors of the communicative act;

- The communicative act: between cooperation and conflict;

- Functions of communication;

- Linguistic competence and communicative competence;

- Norm and Usage;

- Linguistic Variation: linguistic varieties and language registers;

- Modes of communication: Spoken and written language;

- Stages of the writing process: planning; textualization; revision;

- Grammatical aspects of the writing process: lexic; syntax, semantics, others;

- Principles of textual structure: coherence, cohesion;

- Structure of some academic and business texts:

3. Text and discourse

- Multiplicity and functionality in discourse genres;

- Textual sequences: narrative, descriptive, argumentative, expository/explanatory, injunctive/instructional, dialogal/conversational;

- Compositional heterogeneity of texts;

- Modes of enunciation, modality and modalization of discourse.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The teaching / learning process is based on lectures, theoretical/ practical sessions and tutorials in the following proportion:14 lectures; 28 theoretical/practical sessions and 14 tutorials. In lectures and theoretical/practical sessions, the theoretical description of contents is made, followed by the consideration of applied examples and exercises. In the tutorials the analysis and the production of oral and written texts in different contexts are promoted.

The materials used in classes are available on the Sigarra platform.
The mode of evaluation of the CU consists of assessment with final exam. The final grade for the module corresponds to a weighted average of the marks obtained in the components of practical work and written test, with weights of 30%/70% respectively. The final exam is considered only in special cases, as the continuous evaluation is favored.
There is a compulsory 75% attendance.
