Objectives

This course unit is designed for students to gain further and structured knowledge of female literary writing from the late 16th to the last quarter of the 18th century in Portugal. This will necessarily require the revision of annals of the History of Portuguese Literature and to ponder over its cannon. The aim is for students to learn about the most representative works by female writers during these centuries, the context in which they wrote and their reading habits, be it in profane or holy places. By the end of the semester, students should be able to have a structured vision of the dominating literary forms in women’s literature and of its dominant themes, as well as of the dialogue established with other acclaimed authors of world literature.
