Objectives

- Understand the nature and function of myths in ancient Greece.
- Understand the mythical stories of the classical Greek and Latin tradition, as they were reflected in literary works.
- Understand the relationship between myth and literature.
- Recognise the ancient myths as a means of consolidating our collective memory.

2.2. Heroic adventures: Hercules, Theseus, Jason
2.3. Mythical families: the house of Atrida; the royal house of Tebas.
2.4. Punishments and metamorphoses: Prometeus, Tantalus, Sisyphus, Narcissus
3. The Greek myths in Rome: literature and erudition
4. Subsequent literary constructions: the ancient myths in Portuguese literature
