Objectives
-The aim is to provide students with organised knowledge, integrated into the socio-cultural context and in the literary developments in the 19th century.
-The programme modules introduce some of the most important “canonical” texts the aesthetic efficacy of which provides a representative capacity in terms of both content form and expression form.
-We will take into consideration the aesthetic specificities of the works selected for this subject (formal, semantics, theme and ideology).

1. Romantic guidelines
1.1. The "self" as the topic of writing in “Les Rêveries du Promeneur Solitaire”, by J-J. Rousseau.
1.2. “Le Dernier Jour d’un Comdamné” by Victor Hugo: social romanticism and formal specificity.
1.3. Paths of the “fantastique” texts: from Romanticism to Realism.
2. Aspects of poetic production in the 19th century
1.1.Ch.Baudelaire and poetic innovation.
1.2. The Symbolist movement.
