Objectives

By the end of the semester students should be able to:

• understand short authentic audio and audiovisual documents slowly and clearly spoken;

• read and understand descriptive, narrative texts and dialogues;
• express themselves orally , with or without preparation, on the themes discussed in class;

• write short descriptive and narrative texts and dialogues.

Students should also have acquired geographical and cultural information on France and the French speaking countries.

Program

1. Development of oral and communicative skills

• Phonetic correction
• Expressive reading
• Listening and understanding of short authentic documents
• Role play
• Brief oral summary of the project

2. Development of written discursive skills

• Identification of cohesion networks in narrative and descriptive texts
• Lexical and semantic explanation of short texts
• Project on the lexicon and the French language system in short literary texts

• Training in descriptive and narrative writing


3. Development of grammatical skills

• All the indicative tenses
• The conditional
• Simples relatives
• All the determinants

Eligibility for exams

Students are required to attend 75% of classes. Exceptions according to general and FLUP regulations.

Calculation formula of final grade

Written: portfolio and group glossaries (5%); project (5%); exam (40%) = 50% of the final grade. Oral: understand a real audiovisual document (10%); oral test on the project for the semester (40%) = 50% of the final grade.

Students who are exempted from attending classes due to their special status must submit an individual project, take a written test and an oral test to show that they master the skills required.
