Objectives
- Sensitise students to the most significant cultural movements in the contemporary West.
- Understand and interpret the main cultural manifestations and mental strands of contemporary age.
-Improve proficiency in concepts and establish links between them.
- Supervise self-learning strategies and develop interpretation and critical analysis skills.
Program
1. Introduction to the subject: teaching methodologies, assessment types and criteria, sources and bibliography.
2. Enlightenment and critical thought.
3. Romanticism as a cultural revolution.
4. Cultural movements in the 2nd half of the 19th century and the relationship between philosophy, art and science.
5. Intellectuals, culture and ideologies in the first half of the 19th century.
6. The inter-war period – behavioural transformations in western society.
