Objectives
- Consolidate and strengthen knowledge of the language;
- Familiarise students with texts by Cicero, Sallust and Catullus, and with the socio-cultural context in which they were produced;
- Encourage the quality of translation.
Program
1. Revise and strengthen the knowledge of morphology and syntax:
1.1. Particular cases of nominal and pronominal inflexion.
1.2. Conjugation of irregular verbs.
1.3. Systematisation of the notions on agreement and government.
1.4. Syntax of completive and subordinate circumstantial prepositions.
2. Historical grammar.
2.1. Phonetics: ablaut, syncope, rhotacism, evolution of diphthongs.
2.2. Morphology: formation of cases and degrees of adjectives.
3. From Latin to Portuguese: etymology and semantics.
4. Translation of selected texts by Cicero, Cicero, Sallust and Catullus.
