Objectives

Based on the theoretical and methodological fundamentals acquired in Syntax I, the aim is to expand the range of syntactic phenomena, analysing the syntax of the NP, coordination and subordination, from the perspective of syntax-semantic and syntax-discourse interfaces.

1 – The structure of the noun phrase (NP)
1.1. Types of nouns, determination and quantification
1.2. Types of nouns and complements
1.3. Relational adjectives and qualifying adjectives
1.4. Adjective subordination; restrictive relative clauses and appositive relative clauses
2. Coordination
2.1. Phrase coordination and sentence coordination.
2.2. Binary and multiple coordination.
2.3. Some types of sentence coordination.
2.4. Conjunctions and coordinating connectors
3. Subordination
3.1. Completive subordination:
3.1.1. Completives of verb, adjective and noun.
3.1.2. Completives in the positions of subject and complement.
3.1.2. Completive indicative and conjunctive clauses.
3.1.3. Infinitive completive clauses:
3.1.3.1. Constructions of control;
3.1.3.2. The inflected infinitive in Portuguese.
3.1.4. Constructions with causal and perceptive verbs:
3.1.4.1. The construction of exceptional case assignment;
