Objectives

1. Consolidation and development of syntactic knowledge in particular some complex sentences;
2. Learning of new ways of looking at some semantic aspects of Portuguese taking into account the semantics of words like nouns or the semantics of tense, aspect and mood and their influence at sentence and discourse levels.

I. NOUN AND NOUN PHRASE
1.Names and nouns. Semantic types of nouns.
2.Nominal reference and nominal quantification.
3.The syntactic structure of noun phrases.
4.Some remarks on genericity.

II. SUBORDINATION
1.Relative clauses: syntactic and semantic characterization.
1.1.Restrictive relative clauses
1.2.Noun Phrase and sentence appositive relative clauses.
1.3. Free relative clauses.
1.4.Mood in relative clauses.
2.Complement clauses
2.1.Complement clauses selected by nouns, adjectives and verbs.
2.2. Finite complement clauses in Subject and complement position
2.3. Mood selection in finite complement clauses
2.4. Non finite complement clauses.
2.5.The inflected infinitive.
2.6.Tense in complement clauses.
