Objectives

To provide students with a general and inquiring perspective towards the History of Portugal, focusing on the topics and movements that structured the various historical periods under study.
To present contextual historical frameworks capable of enriching the specific academic groundings of the course in which this subject is enlisted.

I. MEDIEVAL PERIOD

1. Formation of Portugal (10th - 13th centuries)
2. Portugal in the Crisis of the late Middle Ages (14th —15th centuries)

II. EARLY MODERN PERIOD

1. Centralization of power and administrative reforms.
2. Social structure of Portuguese society.
3. Portuguese expansion and the construction of an overseas empire.
4. The reformations under the Marquis of Pombal.

III. MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY PERIOD

1. Liberalism
