Mobility for Internships (Traineeships) and Research

The International Office deals only with the formalisation of the application, so the candidate should always contact the intended Department and/or Research Centre, as well as obtain the acceptance of the proposed work/research plan.

Undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students interested in a traineeship may do so under the following programmes:

  • Erasmus+ Programme
  • Iacobus Programme (North Portugal and Galicia)
  • Cooperation Agreements (e.g., Estancias from Spain, sandwich doctorate from Brazil, etc.)
  • Self-proposed internships

Procedures

The candidate must register by filling in an application form on the online module of the University of Porto in order to formalise their application:

Step 1 - Obtain access credentials:

Once you have gathered the compulsory documents indicated below in Point 3, you should proceed to fill out a University of Porto application form. The first step is to obtain a username and password to access the University of Porto's information system. The instructions can be found here:

Step 2 - Filling in the form:

After obtaining the temporary user credentials by email, you can create your application. The instructions for filling in the form are available in the online Application Guide (check page 13 for research internships).

You have to upload a digital photograph on the first page of the form which must have the exact dimensions specified (JPG format 200 pixels high by 160 pixels wide), otherwise the form will not allow you to submit it.

When you need to select the Host Institution, in the available menu you should select "Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto" and in the next available field specify the Department and/or Research Centre. On the "Work Programme" page, the following reference should be inserted: "Research period under the co-supervision of (name of the lecturer/researcher at FLUP and their corresponding department or research centre).

Step 3 - Signature and submission:

Once you have submitted the form, you must generate a PDF of this document, print it out and sign it. You should also request signatures from your university and your supervisor. You must then upload this form together with the following documents in a single PDF file in your online application.

Mandatory documents

The documents that must be uploaded to the application form are the following:

  • Research Plan / Work Plan or Activities / Project;
  • Letter of acceptance from the advisor/supervisor at FLUP, stating the expected dates of the mobility;
  • Support letter from the advisor/supervisor at the home university
  • Proof of enrolment at the home institution
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Proof of scholarship award (if applicable)
  • Proof of health insurance with coverage in Portugal:
    • PB4 health insurance (Brazil);
    • European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) (European Union citizens);
    • Private health insurance (other countries)

 Step 4 - Letter of acceptance:

Once your application has been validated, the official acceptance letter issued by the University of Porto will be uploaded to your online application.
