Objectives

To introduce students to the key guidelines of English literary tradition, paradigmatic figures and illustrative texts.
To develop students’ ability to situate texts in a specific literary and historical context.


Program

Based on an eminently historical-chronological perspective, this subject aims to acquaint students with an extensive understanding of some key features of English literary tradition, having selected, for that end, writers that can more successfully describe them in terms of period, poetics and discourse typology. The same criteria has necessarily guided the selection of texts by the following writers:

- Geoffrey Chaucer
- William Shakespeare
- John Milton
- Alexander Pope
- Thomas Gray
- William Wordsworth
- John Keats
- Charles Dickens
- Oscar Wilde
