Objectives
This course is dedicated to the discipline “Philosophy of the History of Philosophy”. Its main objective is to offer an understanding of the concepts of “systematic philosophy” and “philosophical system” by analysing the perspectives developed by Martial Gueroult and Dieter Henrich.

In-depth knowledge of a set of general schemes of the history of philosophy.

- Introduction to systematic philosophy: what is a “philosophical system”? - Martial Gueroult’s structuralist view.
- On systematic philosophy: the differences between M. Gueroult’s proposal and Hegel’s view of the history of philosophy.
- The example of Cartesianism: the French dispute over Descartes. M. Gueroult vs. F. Alquié.
- The perfect cases of Spinoza’s and Leibniz’s systems: the integral reason and the total intelligibility of Being; the metaphysical principles of continuity and plenitude.
- The special case of Kant's philosophy. The architectonic of reason. How to reconcile ‘criticism’ and ‘system’ within Kant’s philosophy? Analysis of Dieter Henrich’s view.
