Objectives

This course aims to a general survey of French literature of XX-XXI centuries by

1. the analysis of some key authors.
2. the study of socio-cultural contexts and of their relations with aesthetics mutations.
3. literay connections  between France and francophone territories "hors Héxagone" francophone, or with other literatures, as portuguese literature.

Learning outcomes and competences

- Knowledge about major mutations in contemporary French literature;

- Ability to interpretative analysis of literary texts ( from excerpt to integral work).

- Development of skills in reading and writing in the context of the French language and also the Portuguese language, with some attempts in literary translation.

0. Baudelaire's modernity and its issues. 

1. The artistic avant-gardes and their repercussions: Guillaume Apollinaire, Jean Cocteau and Henri Michaux

2. Issues of a humanist ethos in the 20th century: André Gide, Marguerite Yourcenar et  Albert Camus

3. Discursive hibridity: Marguerite Duras. 

4. Between the two shores of the Mediterranean: Tahar Ben Jelloun et Leiïa Slimani.

Calculation formula of final grade

Assessment components: Attendance, participation, home working: 40% ; Deux Tests: 60%.

Nota bene: For a sucessful evaluation in the course unit, the student can not have a rating lower tahan 9/20 in the written tests and the average of the two components should be positive.
