Objectives

This program is based on a diachronic view of literature, reflected on criticism, as well as on texts of each historical and literary period. This curricular unit is considered a first step on the study of literature. Therefore, students should learn to situate authors and texts in order to better understand a more specialized study, to be done later in the course.

Learning outcomes and competences

This program runs through the main times of English and American literature, starting with the classical era and ending in the early twentieth century. Ineach of these periods, students confront essayistic texts and literary excerpt. This learning strategy will allow them an understanding of the threads of continuity and/or rupture in the assertion of Anglo-american literary voice.
